Surely you have ever wanted to use applications that you had on your computer on another Windows device, but, by not installing them, and then having to delete them, you have been left with the desire. Well, you should know that you can create portable applications to use from a flash drive and we are going to show you how.
The fact of being able to create portable applications so that we carry the USB and we don’t have to install them on another computer to be able to run them, is something that is going to give us a lot of comfort and that is going to allow a greater speed when using these programs.
This is something that has happened to more than one of us, since we have all been in a situation of being on a computer that is not ours, wanting to use the application that we normally have at our disposal to carry out a certain task, but realize that installing it is going to take a long time.
In addition, it can also be the case that said app needs us to register a particular account to execute its work, but we do not want to put it, since it would activate our own account on a computer that is not ours.
To solve all these situations, the best thing is that we can have our programs on a USB in portable mode, so that, in this way, we are able to use these applications whenever we want.
For this we are going to need PortableApps, a project that we are going to talk about right now.
What is PortableApps?
PortableApps It is a project that began in 2004 with the intention of creating a portable version of Mozilla Firefox. Shortly after it was followed by Mozilla Thunderbird and OppenOffice, until reaching the more than 400 portable applications that it currently has.
We can say that the portable apps are special versions of certain programs, whose main characteristic is that they do not need to be installed in order to work with Windows.
This is what will allow is that such programs will be able to run on any computer with the Microsoft operating system from an external drive such as a USB stick.
PortableApps is already prepared to turn our flash drive into the center of all these applications to be able to use it on any computer.
In addition, this software has the great capacity of having an extremely simple interface that does not need any type of adaptation, of what is understood from the first moment without any type of difficulty.
All the applications that are included in PortableApps are free and if you look at what the list of them is, it is that it does not include commercial software, since most of them are pirated. To replace this type of software, what they have done is look for alternatives that legally support this type of application.
There are so many programs that it is best to take a look at them and see which ones may interest us before starting to create a flash drive.
The arrival of the MacBook has opened all the debates about USB. Is type C really better? How is USB-C different from regular USB?
Instalar PortableApps
As is normal with any type of software, the first thing to do is download PortableApps to our computer from the developer’s website.
You will see a green button where it says Download from PortableApps.com, which you should press. Once downloaded, we must connect the USB that we want to our computer (we recommend making a backup of your unit if you have any data).
When we have downloaded it, the next step is to install it and follow the steps that appear on the screen, until we see the option Portable – Install on a portable devicesince it is the one that we must mark.
After that we must choose usb drive that we have connected before and click on install.
Once you’re done, dial Launch PortableApps.com Platform and so the program will be launched directly.
From there we can use it.
How to use PortableApps
When it is running we will see how a list with all applications that we can install on the pendrive that we have selected.
We must go calmly looking at them one by one, and install only those that we really need, since it is not convenient to install simply to have them.
In addition, we will not have any problem either, since later we can add more if we need
Once we have all the programs selected, all that remains is to click on Following.
From there we will see how they are going to download one by one all those we have chosen. When it has finished, the installation process will start on the USB memory. Something you should know is that this installation process is not automatic, that is, we are going to have to confirm the installation of the different applications.
When an entire installation has finished we will be able to see in the core part of the interface by PortableApps everything we have installed by categories.
Additionally, we will have at the bottom an indicator of total capacity and the amount of memory available, as well as a button to close the app whenever we want.
To be able to use the applications that we have installed, all we have to do is click, inside the pendrive unit, on Start.exe
That will start PortableApps and from its menu we can access the application that we want to use in a portable way. As simple as that.
As you have been able to read, it is extremely easy to be able to use portable applications from a USB drive. You just have to try it for yourself.

Tronsmart’s new Bang speaker can pair with up to 100 other Bang units to fill a large space with sound, but there are several spots where the speaker could see improvement.
Tronsmart has released a portable speaker designed to get the party started wherever you go. The Bang certainly seems impressive, with an IPX6 rating and the ability to pair 100 units together, but we still wanted to see how it held up to our standards.
Design
We like the design of the Tronsmart Bang quite a bit, taking the form of a cylindrical speaker that features an integrated plastic handle. The all-black design looks pretty slick, though we will note that it makes seeing the buttons rather tricky if you’re in a low-light setting.
The buttons are also difficult to understand, and the layout isn’t intuitive, so there’s a bit of a learning curve here.
Tronsmart has included a button that allows you to pair the device with other Tronsmart speakers, but the icon doesn’t convey that. Likewise, the one-touch equalizer button doesn’t make much sense, either.
We’re tech-savvy here at AppleInsider, and we still had to take quite a bit of time to read through the included handbook to make sense of it. In addition, we still don’t have all of the controls committed to memory.
The Tronsmart Bang features built-in LED party lighting, which is a nice touch. If this doesn’t float your boat, or if you’d prefer not to use it, it can also be turned off.
A built-in charging port also allows you to connect smartphones or small electronics.
Lastly, the speaker has an IPX6 rating, meaning that it’s pretty water-resistant. So it should be able to handle hanging out poolside — though you shouldn’t submerge it, — the occasional rainstorm, or even hanging out in the shower, if that’s your thing.
Tronsmart says that it’s also dust and sand-resistant, but since the IP rating does not say what the speaker is rated at, we feel that it would be too risky to take it somewhere particularly dusty. So we don’t think this would be a good companion at the beach.
Pairing
There are two ways to pair the Tronsmart Bang. The first is a standard Bluetooth pairing process where you hold down the device’s power button for about three seconds to put it in pairing mode. We paired the speaker with a Mac, a Windows PC, an iPhone, and an iPad without much trouble.
You can also pair the speaker via the integrated NFC chip. However, as the iPhone doesn’t support NFC pairing, iPhone owners won’t be able to use this feature.
The speaker uses Bluetooth 5.0, which means it has a 60-foot range from whatever device it’s paired with. Of course, we didn’t have a reason to need to get more than 60 feet from the speaker, but we did manage to get about 40 feet away from it with no connection issues.
One of the more interesting features of this speaker is that it can pair with up to 100 other Tronsmart Bang speakers. While that may not be particularly useful for an individual, flexibility is helpful for certain businesses.
We think three or four Bang units paired together would make an excellent weather-resistant sound system for an outdoor restaurant section.
A closeup of the unit’s ports
If you don’t want to play music over a Bluetooth connection, Bang also features a spot for a flashcard and a 3.5mm aux port.
Sound quality and performance
Because it bills itself as an outdoor/party speaker, we wanted the Tronsmart Bang to sound good at medium to high volume. And, good news — it does. The bass coverage is solid, the mids are crisp, and the highs are clear without distortion or clipping.
We wouldn’t call the sound quality revolutionary, but it is pretty decent. We’d go as far as saying it’s a bit above average for its price.
It does fall a bit short at lower volumes, though. Also, we noticed that the audio sometimes sounds muffled if you’re playing audio under 15% on the speaker, especially if you’re listening to something like a podcast.
The sound quality wasn’t bad enough to make us avoid using the speaker, but not enough for us to prefer using it over something like our iMac‘s built-in speakers, either.
You can also customize the sound quality by using the Tronsmart App. We found that this helped round out the quality for things like podcasts, which we appreciated.
Battery Life
As with all speakers, the battery life is highly dependent on how loud you’re playing your audio. The louder the audio, the shorter the battery life.
Additionally, because this speaker features integrated LED lighting, leaving the lighting on can reduce battery life.
We were able to get nearly 13 hours of playtime across three plays at about 30% volume with the LEDs on. Tronsmart notes that you should be able to get up to 15 hours with the LED off at 50% volume.
The side LEDs are quite bright
However, this is a speaker that you can use while it’s charging, so if you’re using it indoors, you can leave it hooked up to USB-C power.
When we fully depleted the battery, we found that it took about 4 hours to fully recharge it using a USB-C 30W PD wall charger.
Buying one
Perhaps one of the most significant downsides to this speaker is that it’s currently only available through purchase through Aliexpress.
Aliexpress is hardly a beginner website, and many people may find that it might not find it worth it to shop outside of more familiar retailers. Additionally, it takes a full two weeks for the item to arrive, and you’ll need to pay for shipping as an extra charge.
Overall
The Tronsmart Bang is a decent speaker for what it is. The sound quality is good, the design looks nice, the battery life is great, and we like that it’s water-resistant.
We aren’t the biggest fans of the buttons, though, which hinder the speaker more than help it.
It’s certainly an attractive option for businesses that may want to order several speakers rather than just one or two. We wish it was easier to obtain one, though, and hope the seller eventually lists it through Amazon.
Wholesale option for businesses
Can be paired with up to 100 other units
Decent sound quality for price
Built in charger for keeping smartphones topped up

The CalDigit Tuff Nano Plus is a speedy SSD with an impressive 2TB capacity designed for on-the-go iPad and Mac workflows.
CalDigit makes amazing accessories for Mac and iPad, recently releasing a line of Thunderbolt 4 accessories including the TS4 dock and the Element hub.
While they make headlines for their docks, they also offer several storage solutions. The CalDigit Tuff Nano has been around for a few years, and now the CalDigit Tuff Nano Plus joins the lineup.
Portable storage
Out of the gate, one of the best parts of the CalDigit Tuff Nano Plus is its packaging. It arrives in a plastic box that can double as a storage option.
This reduces waste and provides an extra accessory for your drive.
Holding the CalDigit Tuff Nano Plus box
The box’s label can be removed and replaced with one of your choice. These cases can be clearly labeled and organized on a shelf for quick access for heavy media users.
Open the box, and CalDigit includes both a USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB-A cable. This can be unnecessary, but it’s helpful to keep the second cable in the case should you ever need it for other devices.
CalDigit Tuff Nano and USB-C cable in the case
The Tuff Nano Plus is a hair over four inches long, two inches wide, and a little over half an inch thick. With the rubber bumper, it weighs 0.22 pounds all-in.
CalDigit uses an all-aluminum enclosure for the Tuff Nano Plus wrapped in a rubber bumper. The bumper covers the corners as well as the USB-C port.
The CalDigit Tuff Nano Plus without the cover
You can remove the cover at any time for a sleeker appearance, though you do sacrifice some of the durability. The Tuff Nano Plus has an IP67 resistance rating with the protective bumper attached.
IP67 means it is sealed off entirely from dust and can be submerged in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. The USB-C port must be sealed for that water resistance to hold.
As a bus-powered USB-C NVMe SSD, it’s perfectly suited for mobile workflows. All current Macs have adopted USB-C as have the iPad Air, iPad mini, and iPad Pro. Regardless of which device you use, the Tuff Nano Plus will work.
Tuff Nano versus Tuff Nano Plus
In many ways, the CalDigit Tuff Nano and Tuff Nano Plus are the same. They have a very similar metal design with a colorful rubber bumper around the outside and are bus-powered over USB-C.
Both have the same IP67 resistance and come preformatted in HSF+. Where they differ is in speed, size, and capacity.
CalDigit Tuff Nano and Tuff Nano Plus
The Tuff Nano Plus is just slightly longer than the Tuff Nano due to the new internal NVMe media. CalDigit only offered the Tuff Nano in 512GB and 1TB configurations, while the Tuff Nano Plus comes in 2TB.
Finally, that updated NVMe SSD and larger capacity result in slightly faster speeds. The Tuff Nano was advertised at 1055 MB/s read speed, while the Tuff Nano Plus is advertised at 1088 MB/s.
2TB capacity on the CalDigit Tuff Nano Plus
As the differences aren’t huge, CalDigit continues to offer both versions. The smaller capacities in the Tuff Nano and the higher capacity Tuff Nano Plus.
Format as needed
Out of the box, CalDigit has formatted the Tuff Nano Plus in Apple’s HSF format. This has been Apple’s go-to file format for years before it started transitioning to APFS.
APFS was designed specifically for the flash-based storage in its latest Macs but can be used with external drives. We ran speed tests both in the default HSF+ format and APFS.
Speed test results when formatted HSF+
Formatted as HSF+, our CalDigit Tuff Nano Plus scored an 828 MB/s write speed and a 738 MB/s read speed. That’s just shy of the advertised 1088 MB/s maximum read speed.
Speed test results when formatted APFS
When we reformatted the drive as APFS, the write score jumped to 921 MB/s while the read score stayed nearly identical at 740 MB/s. This score is higher than we saw on the standard CalDigit Tuff Nano.
Should you buy the CalDigit Tuff Nano Plus?
When we reviewed the CalDigit Tuff Nano back in 2019, we loved it. It was exceptionally compact and fast.
Since then, many more portable SSDs have made their way to market.
Box for the CalDigit Tuff Nano Plus
It’s much more competitive than it was back then, and users have many more choices to choose from. Despite that, CalDigit remains at the top of our recommendation list.
The updated CalDigit Tuff Nano Plus is faster while also offering a larger storage size. Users who need a lot of storage on the go needn’t look any further.
Portable Registrator is a new open source application for Microsoft’s Windows operating system that adds options to Windows to make portable applications the default handlers on the system.
Windows users who run portable applications do so for numerous reasons. Portable programs do not need to be installed and they don’t leave files behind after they have been used. Some users like to keep portable apps on a USB device to run them whenever they are needed and regardless of the Windows PC. Others like the fact that the apps do not leave traces behind.
Whatever the reason, one downside to using portable applications is that Windows does not support making these programs the default handler. While there are ways around this, Windows’ frontend configuration lacks options to do so easily.
Portable Registrator solves this by adding that option to Windows. The developer has tested the program under Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10, but not under Windows 11 yet. All you do is download Portable Registrator from the project’s GitHub site and run it afterwards. The program does not need to be installed, but it requires elevated rights. Also, Windows may throw a SmartScreen warning when you run it.
The application creates a default configuration file on first run that adds web browser and mail program presets to it. Users who want to configure other types of portable programs, for instance image viewers, media players, or photo editors, need to edit that configuration file first. Editing the configuration file is also required in regards to the supported file and URL associations.
Thankfully, doing so is not as complicated as it sounds. The developer published an example on the portable-registrator.
The program interface is straightforward and easy to use. Just select the portable executable that you want to make the default in the first step, pick the desired program type in the second, and add a name to it to better identify the application.
Portable Registrator highlights the file and URL associations that will be mapped to the selected program. Once you are done, select the register button to apply the change. Options to remove a registration and to reset are provided as well.
Closing Words
Portable Registrator is a useful program for Windows users who run portable applications regularly. More supported application types for common activities would make things easier for users, as the manual editing of the configuration file is the biggest hurdle for new users.
Now You: do you run portable programs? (via Deskmodder)
The portable power storage scene has witnessed a mini-revolution since the beginning of the pandemic. The price per watt has fallen significantly thanks to fierce competition from many newcomers in the industry. Zendure, a company launched in 2013, is one of them and has recently introduced its first high-power battery-based generator. Their products are targeted towards an ecologically conscious younger audience on a tight budget.
The 2000W SuperBase Pro is equipped with a 2kW inverter, a 2.1kW/hr battery capacity, and includes plenty of USB ports as well as DC and AC outputs. It is different from the competition by being a connected device thanks to 4G and Wi-Fi radios. The companion app also gives plenty of options not available through the front panel. Features such as a Power Factor indicator and lots of USB Type-C sockets make it stand out from the crowd.
Pricing and availability
Zendure is running an IndieGogo campaign to launch this new power station in October. For the special price of $1299 which is one of the cheapest watts per dollar available right now, early birds can obtain their top configuration. An extra $448 gets you a high-efficient but compact 200W solar panel also available in the campaign. As with many heavy products that include batteries, shipping to most countries will be in the hundreds of dollars.
Design
The Zendure SuperBase Pro looks like a mini suitcase once unpacked. A retractable handle typically found in carry-on luggage is tucked at the back along with two wheels. The black plastic case measures about 45cm x 28cm x 36cm and at 21.2kg, the model has great power density making it easy to transport and store.
A black accessory pouch containing three high-current charging cables and a USB Type-C to Type-A adapter is also included.
The unit’s grey front panel sports a large and bright 6.1 inch LCD. Four push buttons located around the screen activate various functions of the generator. A green button on the top left turns it on while the remaining three enable the AC, DC, and Wi-Fi sections. Each button when pressed has a small LED that lights up while the LCD’s backlight remains on for as long as the unit is on.
The well-designed display shows all essential information in one place. The customary battery capacity is there as well as the input and output aggregated power. Icons representing various features are located at the top and bottom of the screen. Last but not least is the power factor indicator which allows the user to see how well connected AC devices are performing compared to the inverter efficiency.
On the left side of the case resides six AC outlets that can provide a total of 2000W continuously or twice that amount in short periods.
A regulated 10A 13.6V car output is also present on the same side while the overload reset switch and the input power sockets are located on the right side.
The front panel contains low voltage DC sockets that include four USB Type-C PD divided into two power groups(20 and 100W), and three DC5521 barrel-type DC sockets. The latter is powered from the same source as the 13.6V car output, thus only outputting a maximum of 136W. The lack of Type-A USB sockets is compensated by the supplied Type-C to Type-A adapter.
The battery used is based on Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) type cells. They provide a better power-to-weight ratio while having at least 3000 charge cycles before degrading. NMC is also superior to the commonly available Lithium Polymer, offering more charge cycles while being a cheaper alternative to the LiFePo4 type.
The SuperBase Pro includes some functionality not normally seen in other similar products. In addition to having Wi-Fi and a Power Factor indicator, a 4G radio and a UPS mode have also been included in the feature list. Having a cellphone in a power station can be seen as vanity but the concept that Zendure wants to sell is to have a unit that is always connected. This opens up applications such as device tracking in case of a lost item or transmission of critical information about the health of the system in case of emergency.
In Use
Turning on the station requires pressing quickly on the green button while a longer press will turn it off. A beep validates any operations performed on the front panel. Activating the AC section will automatically activate the built-in fans, generating a low-level hum. The AC ports are capable of a total of 2000W which can be exceeded thanks to the patented Zendure AmpUp technology. This allows 3000W appliances to be powered safely by boosting the output current while decreasing the voltage, thus keeping both the generator and the appliance happy.
Installing the Zendure phone application is strongly recommended in order to use all features of the generator. The unit is placed in pairing mode by pressing the WiFi button until the corresponding icon starts to flash on the display. A new access point is created to which the smartphone connects. On-screen instructions from the app then guide the user through the remaining steps, ending in the device successfully added. The tested app was missing several secondary features such as changing settings on the main page but it was a beta version and the core features all worked without a hitch.
The mobile app offers many options not available through the unit main interface. The input power rate which is set to 1800W by default can only be lowered in the app to avoid tripping the home fuse when charging the station. The same thing goes for the AmpUp, sleep mode, and ambiance light bar which are all features available through the Zendure application.
The uninterruptible power supply or UPS mode is a very useful feature that the SuperBase Pro provides to a household or small office. Thanks to a high output power capability, multiple devices such as home computers and gaming consoles can continue to work during a blackout without any user intervention.
Various accessories are offered at a cost from Zendure. Among them, the 200W monocrystalline solar panel with an efficiency of 22% is an ideal companion for the SuperBase but at $499, is a bit expensive. There is also the EV-AC adapter that allows charging of the unit at any EV station, getting to 80% from being empty in less than one hour thanks to the 1800W charge rate.
The competition
The price of the SuperBase Pro 2000 together with the included features place it in its own category. At 1.5W/$, it is the cheapest NMC-based generator that you can buy right now and competition at this price and performance is hard to come by.
The Bluetti AC200P will often be compared to the SuperBase Pro but at $1700, it costs 30% more. In addition, features such as the AmpUp or the Power-Factor indicator are unique to the SuperBase Pro and give it an edge over similar stations.
The EcoFlow Delta power station is very similar in price to the SuperBase Pro but has less inverter power and battery capacity. Having been on the market for a while, it also lacks modern capabilities such as a WiFi connection or an ambiance light.
Finally, the Jackery Explorer 1500 which is a very capable battery-based generator gets you less inverter and battery power while being more expensive.
Final verdict
Zendure, a neophyte in the world of portable power stations, is trying to cater to a younger audience by having both Wi-Fi and ambiance light built in a modern battery-based generator. At the same time, they mean serious business by including a powerful AC inverter and high-capacity NMC batteries. The price of their 2000W flagship makes for a very competitive product with many features available only on high-end units.

ABSTRACT-
Global Portable Generators Market to Reach $2.7 Billion by 2024 An electricity generator represents an electro-mechanical machine that creates electrical energy from mechanical or motive energy. During power outages, electric generators become crucial providers of electricity for the most essential appliances. Portable generators are used for generating electric power for domestic, industrial, and commercial applications. The generators help in providing power supply during a power outage; generating electricity for electrifying machinery in construction sites, for providing electricity for live commercial events. In the event of an unexpected, sudden power outage, buildings like airports, hospitals, water and sewage facilities, data centers, communication and transportation systems, and fueling stations, need some alternative power, which is provided by a portable generator. These generators are used as a standby power source during the expansion or renovation of industrial infrastructure and commercial infrastructures. For the residential sector, portable generators enable in providing electricity to household lighting, cooling, refrigeration, heating and other electronic appliances/devices during power outages.
Amid the COVID-19 crisis, the global market for Portable Generators is projected to reach US$2.7 Billion by 2024, registering a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.0% over the analysis period. The United States represents the largest regional market for Portable Generators, accounting for an estimated 33.0% share of the global total. The market is projected to reach US$884.4 Million by the close of the analysis period. China is expected to spearhead growth and emerge as the fastest growing regional market with a CAGR of 6.1% over the analysis period.
The market is on a healthy growth path, driven by a myriad of factors, which include significant rise in extreme weather-associated power outages and increased business downtime, growing demand for reliable and uninterrupted power supply in both the developed and developing countries globally, surging demand from rapidly growing building and construction industry, and increasing demand for low-cost generators. Besides weather-related power outages, aging grid infrastructure in several countries struggling to address growing demand for electricity from small and medium scale businesses resulting in power outages spurs the growth opportunities for portable generators. Portable generators also find extensive application in the building and construction sector for powering varied power tools such as air compressors, cutters, drives, drills, air hammers, nail guns and rotary tools. Rise in number of new construction projects where access to power from the power grid is not available, and renovation of existing buildings, drive the growth for the portable generators market. Rising construction activities in India, China, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the US is likely to propel demand for portable generators for continuous power applications. More

Best Portable Light for Photography – Buyers Guide
Making use of professional and high quality lighting at different locations, be it indoors or outdoors, has never been easier. With portable lights, you can shoot on the go, taking your light with you anywhere you go, without having to worry about the time of day.
More and more people are getting into photography, thanks to the accessibility of professional equipment that allows for good results, and portable lights are a very popular choice amongst people wanting to try out portrait photos, cosplay shoots, or create video content such as vlogging.
There are many options for different portable lights, and it can be tricky to know which one is the best fit for you. You need to take into account the type of photography you’re going to use it with, the type of locations you’ll shoot at, and the type of results you’re after.
If you’re not sure of these things, or you’re just starting out and are searching for your style, then it’s good to go for something that will cover all the basics to a good standard.
In this buyer’s guide, we’ve summarized the features you need to look out for, to ensure you choose the best product possible.
Portability
For a portable light, the main thing you need to look for is portability. Seems obvious right? Most portable lights can be attached onto the camera, so they are very manageable and you can pretty much forget about them and shoot as you usually would.
Quite often, these same lights can also be attached onto stands, so they double up as a double function and it gives you more of an option in regards to the kind of setup you want.
You need to check the type of adapter that the portable light has, and whether it is compatible with your camera. If not, there are plenty of adapters available, but it would probably be an added cost.
Another thing that factors into portability, is the weight of the light. It’s important for portable lights to be as lightweight as possible, without compromising their durability or structure.
You must ensure that the light you choose is comfortable to you. It should mount onto your camera in a way that it doesn’t get in the way at all. If you’re having to fiddle about or it tires your arm out a lot, then it might be a sign that you need a smaller, less heavy, light.
LED Lights and Brightness
The function of a light, no surprise here, is to light up the area you’re wanting to photograph in. So it really is vital for you to ensure the light you choose has the right amount of brightness and power that you’re after.
Most portable lights have an adjustable brightness, meaning you can dim down the output when needed, but not all lights have an increased amount of brightness with extra luminous LED panels. It depends on the type of lighting you want, but it’s good to check.
Some lights have bicolor LED lights, meaning half the LEDs are white while the other half are yellow, this gives more flexibility in the hue of the light.
You should also check whether the temperature can be adjusted, as this will be a professional feature to have. It’s also a plus if the product comes with one or two light filters, as it will massively increase the versatility of your photography.
Battery Life
When you’re out and about and shooting on the go, the last thing you want is a dead battery to cut your photography time short.
It’s the same with long days of photos planned out, it’s super frustrating to suddenly have your camera die on you, without having prepared a backup. It’s the same with lighting! You don’t want to be suddenly left in the dark, right?
Something we recommend you always look out for, is whether or not the portable light has a battery life indicator, a button with a flashing light of some sorts to let you know when the light is running out of charge. That way, you can be prepared and get those final shots you want to prioritize.
Depending on the type of light, it will have either a lithium battery that can be recharged, normal batteries that have to be replaced every now and then, or it will plug into the camera itself.
It’s down to personal preference and the type of usage you’re planning on giving it. However, lithium batteries tend to be one of the nicer options, as you can recharge it before your shoot and then you’re ready to go without having to worry about it.
Accessories and added features
Like with any other product, the more money you invest the more you’re likely to get. Portable lights can go up and up in price, reaching high-end levels in which the professional features have the photography almost take itself!
For more budget-friendly options, there is still hope. High quality is achievable with the right accessories and features.
One of the most useful accessories, that is always a plus, is a distance remote control, to play around with the settings without having to fiddle with the buttons on the light.
Another accessory that will come in extremely handy, is some sort of carrier or storage bag for the light. Since it’s a portable light, it won’t be permanently set up in a studio or room.
It will be constantly on the move or packed and ready to go, so having a bag that’s specifically made to fit that light will be great.
Not many portable lights will come with a stand included, but if they do, that’s another great addition, as it will give you even more versatile usage of your light.
As for any other accessories, they’re not necessary, but they’re good to keep an eye out just in case they can be added to your buy. If anything, you could ask whether or not the portable light you’re considering comes with a manual of user instructions.
But most lights are super easy and intuitive to use, so don’t stress if they don’t!
