MUMBAI: Silicon Valley based social video app Firework has appointed Sunil Nair as the CEO and MD for its India operations.

The service was launched in India last month and is part of a suite of apps created by Loop Now Technologies, a Redwood City, California (Silicon Valley) based incubator start-up that focuses on next-gen consumer mobile applications.

Prior to Firework, Nair was COO of Alt Balaji for over 4 years, the subscription-led video streaming service owned by Balaji Telefilms.

“Sunil comes with a wealth of experience in video content platforms as well as a valuable client focused approach. His advisory and direction will be a positive force behind creating a niche for Firework in India and strengthening our presence in this market,” said Vincent Yang, Founder & CEO Firework and Loop Now Technologies.

Nair had also set up the first online video distribution platform – Nautanki TV (acquired by Hungama). In his previous stints he has held leadership positions with One Channel Media, Reliance Jio, and Star India amongst others.

“Having closely worked with several areas of video content, I now look forward to changing the dynamics of short video content in India with Firework. Technology and storytelling have created a new era and we look forward to riding this wave while setting new benchmarks,” Nair said. “My vision for Firework in India is to become more relevant and give our users every opportunity to stay meaningful and seamlessly experience a new view from their lens.”

In India, Firework will focus on working with entertainers and creators who can tell stories in 30 seconds. Firework said it will debut many features in the coming months to its Indian users.
