NEW DELHI: Anticipating a huge surge in hits on Election Commission’s main website on counting day, the poll panel will ensure multiple points for dissemination
of trends and results, including a dedicated link and a ‘voter helpline’ mobile application.
“On the day of counting, ie May 23, 2019, it is expected that the number of hits to the main website will increase to a very large number, wherein users in the search of results will be landing,” the poll panel said in an office order outlining steps to ensure smooth operations on counting day.
As per EC instructions, results will be available at the dedicated link, apart from on voter helpline, both Android and iOS mobile applications. Results will also be available on the display board outside the ECI’s Nirvachan Sadan office. “The main website content uploading will be stopped at 8 pm on May 22…and will resume after the end of counting,” said the order issued on Friday.
The app promises to be a faster and more authentic source of trends and results, enabling the user to keep track of updates relating to his/her constituency and ‘bookmarked’ candidates, not to mention national figures, state-wise drill down data and party-wise performance. The mobile app will take data from the source — the returning officers and assistant returning officers — and directly connect the app users to the counting centre. The app also allows users to bookmark their candidates. a user can enter his EPIC number and it will display the trends and results of their constituency.
